                               American Legion Building<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

American Legion Post 311<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Legion post number 311 was chartered in 1980 here in Pembroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization.  A community – service organization which no numbers nearly 3 million men and women in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide.  These Posts are organized into 55 Departments – one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently the American Legion and the Ruritan Club are the only two organizations of there nature that do not have a permanent meeting facility in Giles County.  We are in the process of building a meeting hall fro these tow clubs at the American Legion shelter located at the Pembroke athletic fields.  This building would be used for meetings of these tow organizations as well as others in the community that need the meeting space.  Additionally we are incorporating in the design a set of restrooms that would be used by the public in attendance at baseball games played at the baseball field located near the current shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruritan Club<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ruritan is a civic service organization made up of local clubs in small towns and rural communities.  Ruritan’s purpose is to create a better understanding among people and through volunteer community service, make America’s communities better places in which to live and work.  The slogan of Ruritan is “Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.”  Club membership represents a cross-section of the community in which the club services, and is not restrictive with regard to occupation, social position, or any other specific criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Pembroke Ruritan Club meets on the second Thursday at 6:30pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masonic Lodge <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organization. It is open to men of 18 years old or older of any color, any religion, nationality or social standing, the only requirement is a belief in a Supreme Being. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, faith, country and a fraternity. Today, there are more than 42,000 Virginia Masons in over 300 Lodges around the Commonwealth.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We support the aged through the <\/span>Masonic Home of Virginia<\/span> for the elderly Virginia Masons, their wives and widows.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We support the sick through blood drives held each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We help protect the children through free Child Identification Programs<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We help to educate the children by providing scholarships each year.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masons  all over the United States raise more than 2.6 million dollars a day in support of many different charity causes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
